4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” 5 Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?” 7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished. 8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?” 9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. 11 “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. 13 “But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”

Since the crucifixion is the event whereby the daily sacrifice ends, it is also the marker we have for how to count - and we also know that it comes in the middle of the 70th week. Daniel's prophecy concerns the arrival of Messiah which was 1290 days before the crucifixion, and 1335 days after His baptism we find Pentecost - when the hope of Israel and the new covenant was seen as fulfilled and in force.

The more I look into this year counting business and engage in postings at Dispensational discussion boards about it, the more I am able to see that this was not the point of the prophecy at all. Cyrus establishes the beginning of the 70 weeks for us and the crucifixion puts us firmly in the midst of the final 7 years of it.

Why didn't Daniel - who had been in the captivity the whole time - resort to year counting to discover the end of the captivity? And since the whole calendar has changed with the advent of Christ and we are no longer looking to find that prophecy ahead of us - why are we even doing this?

BECAUSE, those who do this, are trying to justify their doctrine of Antichrist - not Jesus Christ. This is just one more trap people get caught up in that takes their eyes off Jesus. It blinds them to even be able to see what the cross has accomplished and causes them to deny what He came to do.

Beloved, we ought not get caught up in these things that are trapping people into denying the Lord.

Anybody still wondering if Satan's little season has started yet?
